Family day was this past Friday at St. Cecilia . I look forward to this day each year and I was especially excited about this year's family day. This is the first year that Nick has been able to join us and we let Max in on the fun as well. Family Day is a fun day to end the school year. It is a little bit part madness though with the kids running from each thing to the next. But wouldn't it be weird to spend the day with your child and no madness? haha. We start the day off at mass with your child (Max went to his class during church. Because let's be honest, it's hard to concentrate in church with an antsy 3 yr old)! I have to admit, I get a little bit teary listening to Father Mario thank the parents for choosing St. Cecilia. He understands that it is a sacrifice for a lot of families, us included. But a sacrifice we gladly make. After mass, we break up into 4 stations. It is divided by last name. We started off with family games, Bingo, outside games, and then Karate. After that it was lunch time. During lunch was the talent show. St. Cecilia is blessed with some very talented students. Meredith was going to do a dance but decided against it. Maybe next year!! The day ends with grade level soccer games. You are allowed to sign your child out early. We took advantage of this!!
Saturday Meredith's soccer game was canceled due to the rain. I was happy about this. While I love to watch Meredith play sometimes there are things scheduled at the same time. I hate having to choose what to miss. This Saturday the rain helped me out and I was able not to miss one of my good friend Jennifer's baby shower. It was hosted by our other friend Holly. Holly and Jennifer are two of my first friend's when I moved to the "big city" from Augusta. I was lucky enough to be roommates with each one of them. We shared some fun adventures for sure. They could tell some stories about the good ole days when we were single and a little on the "wild" side. I would not trade those memories for anything. But now we are all grown up! I have to laugh at the girls we use to be and to see us now!! I am so excited for Jennifer to welcome baby Sanders. She shocked me and didn't find out if baby was a boy or girl! What a sweet surprise this is going to be come July! Holly and I have boys that are just a few weeks apart in age. We are both ready to get our baby fix with Jenn's. Holly knocked this baby shower out of the park. It was a storybook theme and hands down one of the cutest baby showers I have ever attended. Holly is planning on doing a guest blog post to share with ya'll the cuteness. The rest of Saturday was spent being lazy. I wasn't feeling the hottest. I did make myself take the kids to church so we could sleep in on Sunday.
On Sunday we were able to sleep in until almost 10. It felt glorious!! After getting the grocery shopping out of the way and putting chili in the crockpot, we decided to go for a ride and headed for the Dari Bar in Silver Grove. If you have not gone, go now!! I introduced it to Nick years ago, and it is his favorite spot to get a good hamburger and the kids ice cream. They only take cash though. The Dari Bar is very old school which is part of its charm. They take your order at a window and the girls write down your order and add up your total by hand. NO CALCULATORS!! That takes skills. My math is not that good lol. I have been going to the Dari Bar since I was a little girl. My mom grew up in Fort Thomas and my grandparents still lived there. After our weekly visit to see them, my dad always stopped there so we could get a treat. I think our favorite thing was ice cream with sprinkles and a "face". I love continuing this tradition with my family each spring and summer. They close in late September and open again around Easter. On our way home, I was looking at facebook and saw that Nick's fire dept had a fire. The kids kept asking to see it. They are like their father and love anything fire. They "had' to see the fire. We knew it was probably out but took them anyway. Sure enough, it was out. But they did not care. They loved checking it out. Nick had to mow and the kids were begging me to take them to the park. It was too chilly for me, but they wouldn't stop. I broke down and told them we could go but we were only staying for 30 minutes. 30 minutes turned into an hour. But it was a good way to end the weekend.
I love and hate Sundays. I love the slowness of the day. But then when Sunday evening hits I get sad that it is the end of the weekend and back to the rat race each week has. My goal for summer is to slow down a little bit and try to enjoy the kids without having too much of a schedule. Because lets be real. I can't give all of a schedule up.
Hope it's a good week ya'll!!
