First Communion recap!

I grew up Catholic and went to St. Augustine Catholic School in Augusta, KY. from 1st-8th grade. There was not a Catholic high school. I loved everything about the Catholic school and knew when it was time to make the choice for my kids one day that it would involve sending them to a Catholic school as well. I am lucky and fortunate that I am able to do this and that my husband supports this decision. Nick was not raised Catholic and went to public school (and there is nothing wrong with this. I went to a pubic high school).  It is hard to explain to someone who is not Catholic and who wasn't raised this way why you are so adamant about it. But Nick understood (or at least pretends).  I may even have a convert on my hands shortly. I know Meredith would love if her daddy joined her in the Catholic faith and has been very open in the fact that she wants daddy to be Catholic too. We even have a sponsor lined up.

There are 7 sacraments n the Catholic church. Baptism is the first Sacrament and welcomes you into the Catholic faith. The ritual of Baptism symbolizes the washing away of sins and cleansing the soul by immersing it in water. Meredith was Baptized in September of 2008.

The First Holy Communion marks a child (or adult's) first reception of the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Meredith and her class have been preparing all year for this special moment. She was so excited to finally be able to receive communion (but also a bit nervous). This special day is most often celebrated in most families. I still remember the day I made my First Communion and the party after to this day. It was a time for all our friends and family to gather and celebrate. For Meredith, we also celebrated her 8th birthday, which happened to be the next day.

Nick and I are so proud of Meredith and her faith. I hope she will always remember this day.

Then we have the party to celebrate!!
