Weekend + Tomato Pie Recipe

Happy Monday Friends!! Can you believe it's last day of July?! What the what! I don't want summer to end but yet I love fall! I am a little sad that school will be starting back as well.

This weekend passed in the snap of a finger as well! Friday we headed home to Augusta for my nephew's birthday party at Lucky K's Lake. OMG. It was so fun. The kids had a blast swimming in the lake and fishing.

Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market, daily Kroger run, and spent the rest of the day at the pool while Nick was at the Fire House. Sunday it was gorgeous outside with no humidity so we decided we would let the kids ride their bikes at Kincaid State Park. Well, apparently they are working on part of the road leading to the park and we would have had to go way out of our way to get there. Instead we ended up in Bracken County lol. Since we were so close to the new ice cream place off the AA we couldn't not stop there. The kids played in the creek for a little bit and then had ice cream. We ended our weekend with a cookout at a friend's house. The perfect way to end our Sunday!!

I wanted to share a recipe I tried last weekend with ya'll. I have been seeing recipes for Tomato Pie floating around the blogosphere. I love tomatoes especially in the summer from the Farmer's Market. I decided I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised how yummy it was!

Ingredients I used:
Gluten Free Frozen Pie Crust
3-4 Large Tomatoes
Basil
Mayo
Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese
Mozerella  Shredded Cheese

Start by layering the tomatoes on the bottom of the pie crust. Then sprinkle the basil over the tomatoes and then repeat. I am horrible at measuring (okay okay .. lazy) but I think I used about a cup of mayo then equal parts of the cheese. Just throw it in the mayo and mix. Then top the mixture over the tomatoes and basil. Cook on 350 for 30 minutes. It really was so easy to make. I ended up doubling and making an extra. Oh, I almost forgot. Once you cut your tomatoes in the beginning put them in a colander to drain the excess water off of with some salt on top!

Happy Friday friends! Today I thought I would share with y'all some of my favorite bloggers that I follow on Instagram and Bloglovin . I love bloglovin! It makes following all my fave bloggers in one spot easier! Just download the app and voila ! I started reading blogs a couple years ago and have been obsessed since ! So much so that it gave me the courage to start my own! While I am no where near these ladies it's amazing to see what you can do with a blog ! Blogging is such a great place for my creative side that I don't get at my "real" job. Plus I have always loved to write ! Remember all those essays or papers from high school and college that most people dreaded? Not me!! I loved composting the perfect papers!! Anyway, add these ladies to your reading lists ! They have amazing content from being a wife, momma , fashion, travel, decorating , and more!

North Carolina Charm
Christina ,from North Carolina Charm, tops my list of favorites. I love her the most probable because she is seriously so relatable. She is a charlotte based blogger but also a working mom. To me she gets it. There aren't too many people that understand the daily stresses and hardships of working and being a mom. The juggling act along can send you into a tail spin. If you are like me and could use a dose of realness go follow this one! She shares how she balances it all, yummy recipes, diy's on her new house , and a lot more !

Seersucker and Saddles
Y'all this chic is my style icon ! Beth at Seersuckers and Saddles is probably the first blog I started to follow. I think it was her adorable short hair cut that drew me in lol. Just ask my stylist , Valerie, who's hairstyles I show her each and every visit! Anyhoo, along with her sassy hair styles , she has fashionista down to a T. When I first started following her she was a single mom living in Lexington. Now she is in Indiana , newly married, and newly pregnant ! I have enjoyed following her story . You can't help but cheer her on and be so excited for her !!

Sweet Southern Prep
Ashley from Sweet Southern Prep is living in Charleston and raising 4 adorable kiddos.

Designer Bags and Dirty Diapers
Natalie is another Charleston blogger that I love! Along with all her great outfit posts , this girl knows how to cook and shares some delicious looking recipes! I need to try the out soon!

Hanging With the Hewitts
Another Charleston blogger I follow is Caycee from Hanging with the Hewitt . Do you see a trend here lol. If I can't live in Charleston I am going to live through these chics as they share their life living in the low county .

Olivia Rink
Olivia is a former Kentucky cheerleader. This alone should make you want to follow her! Haha. Y'all know how I bleed blue! She is seriously the cutest and I love some of her heart to heart posts . She has some great tips even I should take into consideration like how to handle things when they don't go your way!! That was one of my faves lately. Great advice to follow!

Glitter and Gingham
Shelby at Glitter and Gingham should be added to the list as well. Lots and lots of style inspiration! She is based out of Lexington and shares the Lex!

Our Fifth House
Carmel is diy queen! She could give Joanna Gaines a run for her money! If you need someone to follow for all the decorating and diy 's go check out Our Fifth House. Although she is now on her 6th house. When I first started following along she lived in Lexington. But moved to Charleston (yep, my fave city! Fate? I think so ! ) not long ago !

A Polished Palate
I came across Ryan at a Polished Palate just last week. I pretty much binge read her entire blog in a day. I will give you one guess where she lives???? Yep! Charleston ! She might be my 2nd fave!

Family Reunion

Sunday the kids and I   (nick was working 😔) Hit the road for Augusta to attend the Habermehl family reunion. When I say we have a big family I sometimes forget how big our extended family really is!

Mom & Pop
My great great grandparents

Mom & pop with their 10 children including my grandpa Louis
All the kids:

Ruth Ethel Betty Louis Stanley Freddy Bernie Charles Dick Bobby

My grandpa Louis was one 10 children ! Ten kids y'all ! My great grandparents took their Catholic role seriously! You can imagine all the grandkids "mom and pop" (as they were lovingly referred to be the Habermehl clan"). Now we are into the great great grand kids. I would have loved to have met mom and pop! To hear the many stories told they were amazing people who raised their children to love God , work hard , and taught the importance of family. Oh and mom Habermehl taught my granny Habermehl how to make a blackberry cake!! They may have been the most important skill taught ... just kidding.... well you would understand what I am talking about if you were lucky enough to have a piece of this amazing cake!

My grandpa Louis

My grandpa and grandma had 7 children (Annie, Donna , Louie- my dad, Melva , Mary, Markie and Christy)! See big families !! If it wasn't so dang expensive now a days to have kids I would love a large family! Who am I kidding , I don't have the patience mom Habermehl or My grandmother had lol!!

Thank you to my great Aunt Ruthie for getting us all together! There were lots missing. Could you imagine if we were all there ?

Back 2 School Shopping

Does anyone else love back to school shopping as much as me??!! Maybe it's because I love shopping in general but I have so much fun helping Mere pick out school supplies. Last night we ventured out to Target before it got to crowded with the back to school crowd. Since she wears a uniform we don't get to pick out the fun clothes. However, we did snag 5 new light blue polo's. I bought her new navy uniform shorts last spring towards the end of the school year so thankfully we didn't need any. Now all that is left is a new uniform skirt (She is so excited because once you are in 4th grade you can ditch the jumper for the skirt. You know so much more grown up in her eyes lol). We also need new shoes but are waiting until the hospital has a Back to School Event at Dillards (hello payroll deduction). I can't wait until we get Max's pre school list and we can go back for round 2!

Have a great weekend? What does everyone have on their agenda. I picked up an extra shift (gotta pay for all these new school supplies somehow right lol) and Sunday we have the big Habermehl family reunion. I am so looking forward to that!!

Weekend Trip Home

This past weekend the kids and I decided to spend the weekend at home in Augusta. Nick was working 48 hours in a row at the fire house so it was nice to go home and keep the kids occupied! I say this often but as I have gotten older (gasp !!) going home takes on a whole new meaning. I couldn't move out of Augusta fast enough after graduating college. I was never going to be a "lifer" I would say. But now, well, I can appreciate my hometown in ways that you can't when you are growing up and ready to take on the world. For me coming home means I can slow down. Augusta is just a slower paced life. The kids love taking their bikes and taking walks along the river. That is one of my favorite parts as well.

Saturday we stopped and bought some fresh homegrown corn and tomatoes from a man who has a little tent set upon the side of the AA. It is the perfect spot too. He was busy. There were about 5 cars that pulled up while we were there. Once we got to Augusta I took the kids swimming and met my bestie and her little boy at the pool. We spent the day soaking up the rays and catching up on gossip lol. We spent our summer days sitting on the lifeguard chair yelling at all the bad kids haha. Now we are watching our little ones play!

Later that night after dinner we met up again at the Walcott Whippy Dip and got some ice cream. It was their grand opening party with music and fireworks. We love any excuse for ice cream. I got a banana split....YUMMY!! It is a fun place to go. There is a little creek and then you have the Walcott Bridge (great picture location).

Sunday the kids and I got up early and went for a walk down by the river. Max wanted to ride the "ferry ship". But we had Sophie and I didn't think that was a very good idea. One of the bed and breakfasts in town recently reopened. If you want a weekend getaway there are several options. This one had the cutest little pig in their front yard. Mere and Max were squealing when they saw the little thing. We then went back to my moms, picked her up and had brunch at the General Store (home cooking at it's finest). Then it was time for some more pool time before heading back "to the city".

Maybe one day I will return home for good. But for now these little weekend trips fill my soul til the next one!!
