Spring Break { General Butler State Park }

Spring Break sure flew by! At least that is how it felt for us. We had plans of camping at the Kentucky Horse Park. But someone decided they had to mow all his yards and wouldn't be able to meet us until evening and then had to leave for work Friday morning. I thought for about a millisecond of trying to camp on our own but like I said that was only for a moment lol. There are only so much I can do and setting up a tent isn't one of them. Plus the weather was iffy. I remembered from camping at General Butler this past summer that they had little cottages. So on Tuesday I called and reserved us one. That way the kids and I could go on down Wednesday without having to wait on Nick. If it rained it wouldn't be a big deal. It ended up being a nice, quiet getaway for a few days. There isn't a lot to do in early spring. The pool is closed. But we made the most of our little getaway!
We got there like I said Wednesday afternoon. The kids and I unpacked and played at the park. I was able to relax and read my book. By the time Nick arrived it was bed time!

Poor Sophie!

They begged to make slime!

Thursday we got up and Nick  made us breakfast. We decided to visit Madison, Indiana. This historic town is tucked along the  Ohio River in southern Indiana. There are blocks and blocks of historic homes and businesses. The shops are adorable and looking at the homes makes me want to buy a big historic house and fix it up!! It was a gorgeous day to wander the streets, have lunch, and shop.

After we got back from Madison, the kids decided they wanted to go for a walk. We found a trail and off we went to burn some calories before having dinner at one of Nick's favorite spots in Carrolton, Cooper's. It started raining by dinner time so we relaxed and packed up.

Found the camper I want........

Friday the kids and I headed home (Nick left early that morning for the firehouse). I caught up on all the laundry and decided to take the kids to see Boss Baby! All in all it was a great spring break. Now bring on Summer Break and our vacation to Charleston!!!

Best. Easter. Ever

Ya'll this Easter was one for the books and probably the best Easter ever (well since I was a kid and the Easter bunny left goodies in my basket lol). Get ready for  a little picture overload. The weekend couldn't have been any more perfect. That is a rarity at our house. There is always some kind of malfunction with one of us. But not this weekend. I hope it is etched in my mind forever. Saturday Mere and I started the day off with a little girl's day and got our nails and toes done. When we got home Nick decided he wanted to mulch. Meredith surprised us and wanted to help him (she is the opposite of me. I hate yard work. Always have. My dad would make us work in the yard ALL THE TIME. I hated every second of it too. Should have enjoyed it a little more.). Mere did a good job too. She can be his little yard work helper and I will watch haha. We also colored Easter eggs. I got the bright idea to set up a table outside since it was a gorgeous day. But also less messy (which is why I really wanted to do it . Let's be honest:) Then Nick had to pick up a part for his mower and the kids wanted ice cream. Why not lol. We had time to kill before mass that evening.

I can not explain how emotional the Easter Vigil mass was Saturday evening. I knew it would be but watching the RCIA candidates be baptized , seeing how emotional they got, and I could not hold the tears back. I am so proud of Nick. Since September he has been  attending RCIA class every Wednesday. He has enjoyed it and learned a lot. I love him even more for taking this journey through the Catholic faith for his family. Meredith was so happy too. She was so excited and couldn't wait until he received communion.

Easter Sunday we had our families up. We made a ham, broccoli salad, and deviled eggs and had everyone else bring a side. So the best way to do things. haha. It was such a nice day and ended up being nice out.

Meredith has become obsessed with John Cena, a wrestler. My little girl likes wrestling. I mean what the heck lol. She wanted to go to a wrestling match. My brother had told me the WWE was coming to Cincinnati. I looked up the tickets and they weren't that expensive. As an early birthday present I got her the tickets. It was last night. She came home and said it was the best present ever. Nick had fun as well. I am glad I got the tickets for the both of them.

Now it's back to the grind. The kids are on Spring Break. I work the Monday  and Tuesday and then am off the rest of the week. Alleluia!!! Hoping the weather changes so we can go camping. Fingers crossed. Have a great week friends!
