Max is 5

Today my baby boy is FIVE!! How in the world did this happen? This little boy has completed our family in so many ways. He makes us laugh every day. So thankful God chose me to be his momma (even on the days I want to strangle him haha).

Happy birthday MAXWELL LOUIS

Camping Weekend + Max's 5th Bday Party { A.J. Jolly}

We spent our weekend camping. We asked Max where he wanted to have his birthday party a couple months ago and he really wanted to have a camping party. Since we waited til almost the end of September to reserve a camp site almost all of the camp grounds we wanted were booked. We needed it to be close for our family. I had a lot of people coming from Augusta and wanted to make it so they weren't traveling for hours! A friend suggested A.J. Jolly in Alexandria. This place is definitely a hidden gem. We were right on the water ( the kids and Nick did lots of fishing) and it was not crowded at all. There are walking trails and you can also rent canoes (which we were so busy with the party Saturday that we didn't. ).

Nick and Max set up the camper early Friday afternoon. I worked a half day and then picked up Meredith early from school. We lucked out and her class was spending the end of the day watching a movie so she didn't have to miss out on anything. We made it over around 4 and relaxed for a little while. I had a glass of wine and got to read a few pages of my book!! Friends met us at our camp site for dinner and so our kids could play.

Saturday I was up bright and early to walk Rupp and get in some steps. Ya know so I wouldn't feel to guilty about drinking and eating what ever my little heart desired. I needed wine and lots of it. I love throwing birthday parties but I am also a perfectionist and want things to be just so. The wine helps!! We were only serving birthday cookies and cake. I have learned less is so much better in helping my stress level with parties. All I needed to set up was a little dessert table. I loved how it turned out too!! I got my #5 balloon at Michael's,  cake topper and banner were from Etsy! I wish I could take credit for that. But seriously who has time with that with my crazy schedule. Sorry not happening. So much easier to just buy it already made!! I also bought the cake from Kroger. It was sooo good and looked like dirt with the cookie crumbles on it. I loved loved the cookies. I have used the same cookie lady the last couple parties. She does a fabulous job and the cookies taste yummy! If you are in need of a cookie lady message me for details!! The weather could not have been any better for us. The kids played on the playground that was right beside our camp site. After they played they fished!! I think this might have been my favorite party to date. No fuss. Hardly any cleanup. Max LOVED it. Meredith turns 10 in May and I hope she had so much fun camping for Max's that she wants to do it for hers!

 Saturday evening we made chili and took a walk to look at the horses that were in a stable right down the road from us. The owners were super nice and let the kids pet them. The kids and Nick fished some more and I was able to read a little bit of my book.

Sunday we were exhausted and slept in a little bit. Once we were up we tried to soak in the last little bit of our camping trip as we could. A little more fishing, a little more reading , and a little more relaxing. Around 11 we started cleaning up and packing up. The kids and I made it home around 12:30 while Nick returned the camper to his friend who let us borrow it. I was able to start laundry, get the kids bathed, vacuum the house, and lunch started and then prop my feet up for the rest of the evening.

The weekend was just what our souls needed! Now the countdown is on for our trip to NYC!

Praise Jesus, it is FRIDAY!!! It is also Max's birthday weekend. He turns 5 on Tuesday (I am in denial. I don't want my baby boy to be five. Why can't he stay little forever). ONE

I bought this travel journal for Meredith for our New York City adventure. I thought it would be a great way for her to remember our trip at Christmastime plus keep her entertained on the plane. A few of the things included in the journal:
  • Plan your trip and packing list.
  • Write what happened on the way there and back.
  • Write down what you did.
  • Sketch what you saw.
  • Rate each day.
  • Paste in photos, tickets, maps, postcards, and more.
  • Keep more stuff in the back pocket.
  • Plus there are puzzles and games (maybe she will stay off her ipod.....I can dream right lol). Oh and it has a snazzy Elastic band attached to back cover that keeps your place or keeps journal closed!!

    TWO
    I need a portable power charger and found this one! My phone is not holding charge AT ALL and it is driving me freaking insane. I think I am due for a new iphone upgrade and hoping it comes before our trip (and yes our trip is all I can think and plan about currently!! so bare with me until December). Our days are planned to the T in NYC and I know I will need a portable charger there too!

    THREE
    I want a pair of old school Nikes and found these! Could they be any cuter??!! I love love retro tennis shoes. I am not much into the clunky workout tennis shoes to wear with skinny jeans or leggings. Not my style. But these Nikes fit the bill !

    FOUR
    Velvet is this year's fall/winter trend and I am obsessed. I have found Meredith and mine Christmas outfit plus a few other things in velvet already!! I like to be ahead of the game ....ya'll I have most of my Christmas shopping done too.....don't hate me haha! I refuse to be stressed during Christmas. Christmas isn't meant to be stressful so I have a go to plan every year to make it as stress free as possible. It helps this year that it the kids' gifts are scaled way back because of our trip. But back to velvet. I plan on wearing this velvet top with a pair of skinny jeans or black leggings with leopard flats for a laid back look.

    FIVE
    Le Papier Studios has the cutest silhouette ornaments, bracelets, necklaces, and more. Today they are having 20% off. I got this  ornament last year. By far my favorite ornament!!

    Weekend Rewind {Country Pumpkin}

    Happy Monday!! The weekend went entirely too fast per usual especially since I only got one day to enjoy. I picked up an extra 12 hour shift at work yesterday (because Christmas in NYC and Catholic Schools lol).

    Friday evening my mom came up since she was babysitting on Sunday. She decided to spend the weekend. We all love when she comes! After I got home from work we went to Halloween Express and let the kiddos pick out costumes. Mere originally was going to be a hippie and Max a zombie. After looking at costumes, though, we left with a Pirate and a Vampire! After we ate at Olive Garden. It just wasn't as good as it use to be. Maybe it' s because I don't eat gluten daily or pasta all the time anymore. But I was kind of sad. The kids were probably the best behaved eating out so that was a win.

    Saturday we had a slow start to our day. I was able to take Rupp on a nice long walk , do some laundry, and enjoy a cup of coffee. We then went to the pumpkin patch in Dry Ridge called the County Pumpkin. We really like this one. It has a great play area for the kids along with the standard farm animals, maze, and hay ride out to pumpkin fields. It was so warm out. I don't think the kids have ever worn shorts and tshirts on our annual trips to the pumpkin patch. Of course, it wouldn't be a Boots family trip without some melt down and attitude thrown in. #reallife ya'll!! Sometimes our kids need a little dose of reality or in this case a moment to regroup themselves in the truck (with us and the air on fyi haha). After a lecture and some threats for shits and giggles it was back to enjoy the day!! Once we were home they couldn't wait to decorate their pumpkins and momma couldn't wait to pop open a bottle of wine to take the edge off!! Max and I fell asleep on the couch by 8:00 (does that make me officially old...nah....will never admit to that.).

    Yesterday Nick purchased our tickets for our flight to NYC. I can't hardly wait. The kiddos know we are going and it will be part of their gift and that Santa isn't bringing them as much as he normally does. Also we always buy them gifts from us to unwrap. They won't be getting that either this year. But, hells bells, they are getting NYC decked out in all her Christmas beauty. That is better than any gift that they will play with for several days and forget about after. Now they don't know we are flying. We have talked about wanting to fly but are keeping that part secret.....so shhhh!! I am going to wrap little airplanes and give to them on the morning we leave!! I already have our 3 day itinerary written out (yes, I am OCD and love to plan things out. I can't wait to share how we do NYC with ya'll afterwards!). No Monday blues after booking those flights!! Hope your all's Monday is off to a great start as well!!
