We tried our hand again at tent camping this past weekend. Nick's family was having a family reunion at General Butler State Park, so we decided to camp for a night. This hilltop resort sits where the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers meet in Carrolton, Ky. There is so much to do and was a little sad that the weather didn't cooperate (and kids). If camping isn't your thing they have a hotel and little cottages you can rent. There is also kayaking, pedal boats, putt put , golf course, fishing, swimming pool, and hiking trails.
Our loop was across from the restrooms and bath house. When camping in a tent this is probably one of the first things I look for when reserving a spot.
Nick and Max went early on Friday and got everything set up. I had to work and then picked up Mere from school. We came home and changed and grabbed our bags before we were on the road. It was so nice arriving with everything set up. All I had to do was add a few decorations!! Ya'll know I couldn't leave that out. It was Nick's bday on Sunday so I hung a banner and a few other decorations to celebrate. Everyone who walked by said Happy Birthday!! Campers are some friendly folks:) Max and Nick already went swimming but Mere wanted to go so they took us after we ate dinner. The pool at General Butler is nice. Plus they have a baby pool. A pool is a total plus in our world. Our kids are little fishes. Friends of ours and their kids happened to be camping and were there another night. The kids got to play and the big kids could drink and talk!
There is a little restaurant in Carrolton that Nick loves. I picked up dinner on our way. Donuts for breakfast and brought hotdogs and a few side dishes for lunch. (It started to rain around 11 and by noon it was coming down good. We also were dealing with some attitude from the kids so I took them on home. Nick stayed to pack up. Needless to say, we didn't cook lunch.)
We are ready to plan another camping trip in a few weeks. Hopefully the kids and weather will be a little more cooperative this time!!
