Weekend Trip Home

This past weekend the kids and I decided to spend the weekend at home in Augusta. Nick was working 48 hours in a row at the fire house so it was nice to go home and keep the kids occupied! I say this often but as I have gotten older (gasp !!) going home takes on a whole new meaning. I couldn't move out of Augusta fast enough after graduating college. I was never going to be a "lifer" I would say. But now, well, I can appreciate my hometown in ways that you can't when you are growing up and ready to take on the world. For me coming home means I can slow down. Augusta is just a slower paced life. The kids love taking their bikes and taking walks along the river. That is one of my favorite parts as well.

Saturday we stopped and bought some fresh homegrown corn and tomatoes from a man who has a little tent set upon the side of the AA. It is the perfect spot too. He was busy. There were about 5 cars that pulled up while we were there. Once we got to Augusta I took the kids swimming and met my bestie and her little boy at the pool. We spent the day soaking up the rays and catching up on gossip lol. We spent our summer days sitting on the lifeguard chair yelling at all the bad kids haha. Now we are watching our little ones play!

Later that night after dinner we met up again at the Walcott Whippy Dip and got some ice cream. It was their grand opening party with music and fireworks. We love any excuse for ice cream. I got a banana split....YUMMY!! It is a fun place to go. There is a little creek and then you have the Walcott Bridge (great picture location).

Sunday the kids and I got up early and went for a walk down by the river. Max wanted to ride the "ferry ship". But we had Sophie and I didn't think that was a very good idea. One of the bed and breakfasts in town recently reopened. If you want a weekend getaway there are several options. This one had the cutest little pig in their front yard. Mere and Max were squealing when they saw the little thing. We then went back to my moms, picked her up and had brunch at the General Store (home cooking at it's finest). Then it was time for some more pool time before heading back "to the city".

Maybe one day I will return home for good. But for now these little weekend trips fill my soul til the next one!!
